Lent 2021 Week 1

Bible Reading Sunday: 21st February 2021

Bible reading Sunday: today’s reading is John 14. Below is a short segment for you to read and think about if you have limited time, but please feel free to read the whole passage yourselves from your own bible.

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Take the time to reflect on what this passage means for you personally, and how you can live with God as your main direction in this modern world we live in. Everything seems a bit strange for us all now, but God is ever present to provide us a pathway through these trials.

COMPASS: this week’s theme is about finding direction through God at all times, when things are going well or when things seem a bit tough. For today’s Media Monday we invite you to be creative and send pictures to us of what finding direction means to you! Our interpretation is pictured here.

The pictures we receive will be featured on our social media and a selection will also be used in our news sheet - so please make sure you don’t send anything you aren’t happy with being visible 😊 #nctmlent21 #lent

Please send any pictures to news@northchelt.org.uk and we will add them to our social media pages for others to share

COMPASS: today is Tune Tuesday, and as suggested by a member of our congregation, we have chosen “One More Step Along the World I Go”. In particular, the following two verses which we have recorded for you to sing along to with us at home! We felt the words were very poignant for the world today.

Singalong with us:

One more step along the world I go

One more step along the world I go

From the old things to the new

Keep me travelling along with you

(Chorus) And it’s from the old I travel to the new

Keep me travelling along with you

Give me courage when the world is rough

Keep me loving though the world is tough

Leap and sing in all I do

Keep me travelling along with you

(Chorus^^^^^)

COMPASS: Wild Wednesday! Perhaps we should rename today windy Wednesday for this week... If you can face the wind today, why not head out for a walk? As our theme is compass and finding direction, now is the time to try out that path you have never walked on before, or maybe try to make your walk circular so you don’t see the same things twice. Whatever you do, make sure you don’t get lost and can find your way home! Feel free to send us some pictures from your walks this week

COMPASS: it’s Food Friday! This evening we would like to share a simple recipe for you to try with the little ones (or just for yourself!) These tasty cactus Rice Krispie treats are inspired by Jesus entering the desert. At this time he was tempted by the devil and still found the path back to God. Try this recipe at home and send us some pictures of how they turn out!  #nctmlent21 #lent

Please send us your pictures of your Cactus Rice Krispie treats to news@northchelt.org.uk

Compass: 27th February 2021

COMPASS: It’s Social Saturday! Time to play a game with your family. For those of you who live alone, we have a bit of fun for you too! Families: why not try setting up a simple obstacle course with items in your house? Anything from dining chairs to empty toilet rolls can be used for this! Then find something to be a blindfold, put your trust in a fellow family member and see how well they can direct you through the course using only words!

For those who prefer a solo activity, find three objects that have a lid which you can put on and take off with ease (empty plastic bottles or Tupperware will do!) Sit at a table, set the three objects with their lids in front of you and close your eyes/use a blindfold. Now try to successfully put all three lids on without your eyesight. Notice how even our senses given by God come into their own when one is weakened or taken from us, and how you can still find a way to reunite the two objects. In the same way, finding direction through God is always possible with a little faith in him and ourselves #nctmlent21 #lent
