The notices shown below appear in the pew sheet available to all that attend our church services on a Sunday.  They are for all the churches in the North Cheltenham Team Ministry.  Some slight editing has been necessary to make them readable over a wide period.

Send anything you have for this weekly sheet to the Team Administrator by the preceding Wednesday.

NOTICES FOR THE WEEK BEGINNING 19 FEBRUARY 2012

THORNBURY
As a Team Ministry we mourn the recent violent death of the Revd John Suddards. Our prayers go out to the people of Thornbury, including his curate, the Revd Bruce Goodwin, who was on placement with us a few years ago.

SHROVE TUESDAY QUIET DAY
There is a Quiet Day in the Cathedral on 21 February from 10am to 3.30pm. Worship, silence, prayer stations and a sense of space, together with addresses from three bishops. All are welcome to attend this free event.

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICES THIS WEEK
All communicant members of the church are encouraged to attend a service on Ash Wednesday. The services in our Team are:
  10.30am: Said Eucharist with imposition of ashes in St Mary’s
  2.00pm: Tempo service in All Saints’
  7.00pm: Holy Communion in St Lawrence
  7.30pm: Sung Eucharist with imposition of ashes in St Nicolas’
  7.30pm Sung Mass with imposition of ashes in All Saints’

TRANSFORMING LIFE IN LENT 2012
This year's Lent Groups start during the week beginning 26 February.
We can offer a choice of four groups:
  Monday evening:   Boulton Road, 7.30pm to 9pm.
  Wednesday afternoon:   Cleevelands Avenue 2:30pm
  Wednesday evening:   The Green, Uckington 7.30pm
  Thursday afternoon:   Cleevemont, Evesham Road 2.30pm
These groups are in addition to the three existing Bible Study groups.

INDABA VISITORS
The members of the Indaba teams from the Dioceses of El Camino Real (California) and Western Tanganika (Tanzania) will be visiting the Diocese of Gloucester from Monday 20 February. Mr Jo Johnson and Mr Cornelius Nkala will be joining us for worship at St Mary’s Prestbury (Celebrate! and 11 o’clock) on Sunday 26 February. Please pray for the visit and continued deepening of fellowship and understanding of God’s Mission.

PANCAKE PARLOUR IN AID OF ST. LAWRENCE'S RESTORATION APPEAL
Tuesday is Shrove Tuesday and we will be serving pancakes in the Village Hall from 3pm to 5pm.  The cost is £1 for the first pancake and 50p for each subsequent pancake.  A variety of toppings will be available, including traditional sugar and lemon juice.  Drinks are included.  Please encourage friends and neighbours to come along.

PRESTBURY MOTHERS' UNION
The MU will meet on Tuesday 21 February at St Nicolas' Church at 7.30pm.  This will be our AGM and Eucharist, and Fr David will be with us.    During our coffee time Edward Wyatt is going to show photos of our Christmas evening -  with the colourful flags !!    Sylvia McKenzie.  Branch Leader.

QUIZ EVENING AT ST NICOLAS’
There will be a Quiz Evening on Saturday 25 February in St Nicolas’ hall beginning at 7.30pm.

ST MARY’S FLOWER ARRANGERS
The Flower Arrangers AGM will be held on Tuesday 28 February at 7.30pm at St Nicolas’. We hope as many members as possible will attend, and warmly welcome anyone who is interested in joining us.

AFTERNOON TEA
An Afternoon Tea will be held in St Nicolas’ church room on Wednesday 29 February at 2.30pm to raise funds for our Jubilee Celebrations. Please join us and bring your friends along!

GOLD CUP MEETING, 13–16 MARCH
St Nicolas’ Church will be serving refreshments to the race-goers every morning during the Meeting – from 9.00am to approx 12.30am. Offers of help with this fund raising event are needed; please contact Sue Bolton  or Margaret Compton

BEETLE DRIVE FAMILY FUN EVENING
There will be a Beetle Drive at St Nicolas hall on Saturday 24 March at 6pm. Adults £1 per sheet, children 50p per sheet. For more information, contact Jeanette

ST LAWRENCE CAKE & COFFEE MORNING

TEMPO meets at 2.30pm on Wednesday 15 February in All Saints’ for an talk by Sara Reader about The Open Door. All welcome.

FRIENDS OF ALL SAINTS’ TALK
On Thursday 16 February at 2.30pm, Dr Brian Knight will give a talk in All Saints’ church entitled Bishop Ellicott & the Horse Pond – reflections on the life of a bishop of Gloucester in Victorian England. The cost to visitors is £3, and all are welcome.

FRIENDS OF SAINT MARY’S FILM EVENING
To mark the start of Jubilee Year, the Friends of St Mary’s are showing the classic Ealing Comedy film The Lavender Hill Mob, preceded by an original 1950 newsreel on Thursday 16 February. Drinks and nibbles at 6.30pm for a prompt start at 7pm.
Everyone very welcome. A £5 donation towards the upkeep of St Mary’s will be appreciated. Tickets from Phil Dodd or Jim Mackie

'OPEN THE BOOK' COFFEE MORNING
Saturday 18 February at the Prestbury United Reformed Church, Deep Street, 10:00am until noon.  Julie Jefferies will be explaining how 'Open the Book' works and what it brings to our local community.   Tea/coffee and cakes. All welcome.  Sylvia McKenzie

WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER
Volunteers, male and female, are needed to take part in the annual service for the Women's World Day of Prayer at Highbury Church on Friday 2 March at 1.45pm. TRANSFORMING LIFE IN LENT 2012
This year's Lent Groups will start during the week beginning 26 February. So far, we can offer two definite groups in addition to the three existing Bible Study groups:
  Monday evening at  Boulton Road, from 7.30pm to 9pm.  Six spaces
  Thursday afternoon at Cleevemont, Evesham Road, from 2.30pm – 4.30pm. 8 spaces
We especially need someone to host and lead a Wednesday afternoon group.
If we have more people than available spaces, further offers to host and to lead groups will be needed.

PRESTBURY PRAY THE STREETS – UPDATE
We have amended the St Mary’s leaflet as follows: 
  7th add Queenwood Grove
  8th delete Queenwood Grove and add Wayward Lad Close & Bula Way
  9th add Tremblant Close & Mill Reef Drive. 
The LMT invites you during the next three months (February, March & April) to come to church on the day on which your street will be prayed for.  Details of service times are on this notice sheet and on the back of the parish magazine.

FRIENDS OF ST MARY’S AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the Friends will be held in St Mary’s church at 7pm on Thursday 9 February.

PRAYING FOR ST MARY'S INFANTS' SCHOOL
Would you like to spend a little time in prayer for our children?  Steph and Irina will be leading a prayer group at  Chiltern Rd, Prestbury GL52 5JQ, on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month, 9.00am for a 9.15am start. We will pray for about half an hour and very much hope you will want to join us. Please contact Steph  to let her know you are coming. The first meeting will be on 1 March.
